Waisted Merino Coat

Our Downing Coat style made up in a sumptuously soft flannel from Fox Brothers. A deep chocolate colour with a subtle herringbone patterning, this cloth will keep you warm, take you to work, the races, dinner, weddings and beyond.

The coat co-ordinates well with both our A–Line skirts in Chocolate Merino and our Downing Dress in Silk Matka in either the Darker Straw or Raffia Colourways.

Fabric

This is a real luxury of a fabric, a limited edition flannel from Fox Brothers, woven in Somerset. A warmer-weight, this flannel has a sumptuous handle and delicious touch. It has sufficient natural hold to maintain the Skirted Hourglass shape without exaggeration.

The Style

The Downing is one of the most shaped and tailored of our coats. It has neatly tailored shoulders and a structure that mirrors the hourglass shape with a generous skirt.

Superbly flattering, this coat has full length sleeves. The sleeves are slitted at the wrist and have deep internal hems to allow a fold-back cuff. It has two hidden seam pockets and is designed to be worn low on the calf. 

When closed, the two front panels of the coat should be able to meet without either straining at the rear or overlapping at the front; they can be held together to keep the coat closed with any of our closures. This style can also be belted.

This coat works equally well worn both open and closed.

Collar

This coat can be ordered with Nehru Collar as shown in the photographs, or with a Simple Round Neck.

Lining

Lined in Hazel Silk with a Dark Brown Satin Trim.
